Dr. Yoav Kenny is a senior staff member at the Mandel Center for Leadership in the North, where he lectures in the humanities in all of the Center’s programs and provides academic support for the Mandel Program for Social Leadership in the North. A researcher, lecturer, editor, and translator, Yoav specializes in political theory, critical theory, ethics, contemporary European theory, and philosophical examination of relations between humans and non-human animals. Yoav was a founder and editor-in-chief of Mafteakh – A Lexical Journal of Political Philosophy, published by the Minerva Humanities Center at Tel Aviv University. Yoav holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and the humanities from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a master’s degree and doctorate in philosophy from Tel Aviv University. His doctoral thesis examined the relation between political philosophy and the philosophy of the animal in the philosophical works of Aristotle, Martin Heidegger, and Jacques Derrida. He completed post-doctoral studies at the Hebrew University philosophy department as a Dan David Prize recipient; at the department of rhetoric at University of California, Berkeley, as a Fulbright Scholar; and at the Edmund J. Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University. Yoav is also a certified spiritual care practitioner (SCP-C) and works with people and families suffering crisis and loss due to illness. He lives in Tivon.
